Renewal at the Ranch
What a difference rain can make.
This year’s summer monsoon, beginning on June 18th, was the most abundant New Mexico has experienced in the past twenty-five years. After seasons marked by dryness and uncertainty, the land responded with visible relief. Hillsides softened into green. Pastures thickened. The air felt alive again.
While one generous monsoon does not resolve the broader drought conditions across the Southwest, it brought meaningful restoration to the ranch this year. Sometimes resilience comes not from grand solutions, but from seasonal grace.
For the first time in many summers, supplemental hay was not needed. The cows grazed freely on abundant grass, nourished directly by the land. Watching the pastures regenerate was a powerful reminder of nature’s capacity to rebound when given moisture and time.
You can witness some of this transformation here:
Holding Hope for 2023
As we move into 2023, the prayer is simple: continued moisture, steady balance, and thoughtful stewardship.
Rain teaches humility. It reminds us how dependent life in the mountains truly is on the elements. In arid regions like Northern New Mexico, water shapes everything—from livestock to wildflowers to the rhythm of daily life.
The monsoon season offered more than green grass. It offered encouragement.
A New Chapter: Men's Retreat at the Ranch
Amid this season of renewal, plans are underway for the first Men’s Retreat at the ranch in the summer of 2023, co-sponsored by the Creative Healing Arts Center.
The land feels ready.
There is something powerful about gathering in a place that has just been nourished by rain—where the ground is soft, the air is clear, and the cycles of restoration are visible. The retreat will create space for reflection, connection, and grounded presence in the mountains.
More details will be shared soon.
For now, gratitude for rain. Gratitude for green fields. Gratitude for the quiet resilience of the land.
And hope, for continued balance in the seasons ahead.
